Automation Technician

Reports to: Automation Manager

Department: Service

Job Summary:

TESS is an industry leader servicing the Mega Yacht Industry. We are seeking skilled Automation Technicians to repair, maintain, and support computer-controlled systems used within the marine industry to reduce human intervention and maximize operational efficiency. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position offering a flexible schedule, health benefits, and paid vacation time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • • Design, install, and support electrical control and automation systems.
  • • Program and configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • • Troubleshoot electrical and control issues in automated systems.
  • • Maintain and repair electrical equipment used in marine automation systems.
  • • Conduct electrical safety inspections and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • • Support automation upgrades and system improvements as needed.
  • • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

  • • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Automation Systems, or a related field required.
  • • Minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a desk and on a computer.
  • • Ability to lift 15 pounds as needed.

Field Lead Marine Electrical Technician

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL (In-Person)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $38–$45/hr + Overtime + Performance Bonus + Travel Pay

TESS LLC is a marine electrical engineering and service company specializing in complex electrical troubleshooting, power distribution, and automation systems on large yachts. We are typically called when systems are critical, problems are unresolved, and precision matters.

The Opportunity
We are seeking 1–2 high-level Field Lead Technicians who can take ownership of diagnostics in the field, support Technical Managers, and lead small teams on-site. This is not a management role. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on solving real problems.

What You Will Do

  • • Lead troubleshooting and diagnostics on AC/DC systems, shore power, generators, and automation systems
  • • Execute structured diagnostic processes and report findings clearly
  • • Support and guide 1–3 technicians on-site
  • • Communicate professionally with captains, crew, and project stakeholders
  • • Work with Technical Managers to develop solutions and next steps
What This Role Is NOT
  • • Not a desk job
  • • Not a project management role
  • • Not repetitive install work
Who We Are Looking For
  • • Strong marine electrical troubleshooting experience (yacht or commercial)
  • • Ability to think clearly under pressure and avoid guesswork
  • • Professional presence in client environments
  • • Experience working independently in the field
  • • Ability to guide and support junior technicians
Preferred Background
  • • Yacht Engineer / ETO experience
  • • Experience with complex fault finding and system diagnostics
  • • Understanding of marine etiquette and working environments
